| Membership
Full membership of The Vikings - North America is
open to anyone over the age of 18. Due to our safety
regulations children under 18 years of age are not allowed to
participate in combat displays.
The society charges an annual membership fee (payable in January
each year), and varies depending on what level of membership you
wish to obtain, (see below for more information. In return, members
are covered by the society's Public Liability Insurance, receive a
regular newsletter to keep them informed of events, resources, and
society business, and are given access to all applicable society
lists.
VNA membership varies throughout the year, normally peaking at
around 50+ members, mainly based in the US, but we are willing to
take members from anywhere in North America that are willing to be
subjected to our probationary period. If you are interested in
joining The Vikings - North America, contact our Membership Officer,
Terri Morgan, via email.
Alternatively, the
Groups Directory will point you in the direction of a more local
contact who can provide more information and an introduction to what
we do.
Membership Types
As of
January 1, 2008 membership dues are $20US.
Dues
collected will cover the costs of the production of the Vine, insurance costs,
and various other organizations costs.
Membership benefits include:
- A VNA membership card.
- A regular online newsletter (The Vine) to keep
them informed of events, resources, and society business in NA.
- Access to the
VikesNA egroup
and any other applicable NA egroups
- Members will have access
to a group liability insurance policy that covers your group when it
sponsors events
- The ability to be recognized via our awards
system.
To address past membership concerns, we will also be
instituting a six month probationary period on both new memberships and any
groups who join. This will give both sides a chance to ensure that
everything is a good fit. In the case where the member or group is known to
a large number of our members and is in good standing with these members,
this probationary period may be waved with the NA Thegns approval. Any group
or member that leaves VNA for any reason will be subjected to the same
probationary period should they decide to rejoin. The NA Thegn may also wave
this period if he so chooses.
Also note as of January 2007, any group wishing to achieve
official membership into The
Vikings or The Vikings - NA must have at least 4 paid members
in its group.
